Using data and analytics is becoming increasingly important in our day-to-day work in Sky finance.

The Finance Analytics team was established in 2018 as an analytical centre of excellence within commercial finance, and we are building on initial successes by expanding our team.

The projects and analysis we lead are very commercial in nature and typically deal with high-profile issues for our executive team.

Our responsibilities range from leading big data / predictive analytics projects and analysing complex business issues through to building the analytical capabilities of our commercial finance function.

Examples of our work to date include:
Leading cross-functional data science projects to identify opportunities to reduce customer churn & optimise revenue
Undertaking in-depth analysis of the relationship between viewing patterns and financial performance
Developing and using new data sets to analyse and optimise all aspects of revenue and business performance
Rolling out an analytics development programme for our wider commercial finance function


What you'll do:

Roles within our team focus on generating insights from data to deliver financial benefits and improved decision making, as well as playing a lead role in high-profile projects that aim to tackle business issues through use of big data and analytics.

Your work will involve elements of the following:

  • Deep dives into high-profile aspects of business performance
  • Undertaking complex analysis using large data sets
  • Bringing new insight into performance
  • Supporting data science projects
  • Sharing best practice across our UK commercial finance function and the wider Sky group (Germany and Italy)
  • Identifying and supporting opportunities to optimise revenue and EBITDA growth
  • Working with colleagues across functions, including commercial finance, sales, marketing, data and technology
  • Coaching other team members and helping our broader finance team get even better at using data and analytics in their day-to-day work


What you'll have:

We’re looking for people with a passion for using data-driven analysis to solve complex and important business problems. You will be proactive, naturally inquisitive and commercially-minded, and have experience in an analytically-focused role.

You must have either of the following qualifications;

  • At least 2:1 Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, or
  • Qualified Accountant or equivalent experience


You will be able to demonstrate experience of some or all of the following within a finance or comparable analytical role:

  • Taking a lead role in multi-functional projects
  • Performing analysis to support business decisions or bring new insight
  • Clearly communicating results of complex analysis to senior and / or non-technical stakeholders
  • Breaking down business questions into analytical requirements
  • A positive, proactive and logical approach to problem solving, and a passion for working with data
  • Building strong working relationships within and outside of your immediate team
  • Generating insights from large size datasets using appropriate analytical tools
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Desirable to have experience with Tableau and Google BigQuery/SQL
