We’re looking for an Assistant Editor to join the award-winning Sky News podcast team on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract. This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join our Washington DC bureau to lead on the audio and video production of one of our biggest titles, Trump 100.
You’ll plan, script and produce impactful episodes which make the best of the knowledge, warmth and analysis of our presenting line-up.
You’ll also be a key part of expanding the brand across platforms so we’re after bags of ideas on how we grow our audiences and engagement, as well as plenty of ambition for the future of the title.
Of course, we need you to live and breathe US news and US politics too.
You’ll understand how podcasts are a vital pillar of the Sky News 2030 strategy and be able to show experience of leading teams, giving feedback and working with presenters. Good knowledge of media law is a must.
What you’ll do:
·Make key editorial decisions about the podcast and drive effective video promotion on Sky News and social platforms.
Lead editorial teams, manage and develop journalists and represent colleagues in meetings.
Be instrumental in developing new strategies to grow audiences for our podcasts
Work with our audience development team to understand and implement data-led strategies.
Be engaged with the Sky News 2030 strategy and understand and communicate why podcasts are a vital pillar of this.
Develop ideas for new formats
What you’ll bring:
Significant knowledge and understanding of US politics.
Editorial and technical know-how with audio editing tools.
Knowledge of different audio platforms and the opportunities they bring
Have ‘best practice’ experience and legal knowledge to critique and sign-off sensitive journalism.
Creativity – and examples of compelling audio you’ve overseen.
Significant newsroom and people management experience.
