This role is for a Broadcast Support Team Lead. You will be leading a team of around 8 engineers, whose skill sets will span supporting MCR, Playout, OTT and DTH distribution. The successful candidate will line-manage the engineers on a day-to-day basis, managing and delegating workload. It is expected that there will be roughly a 50:50 split between engineering and management responsibilities. You will be able to confidently manage major incidents, dealing with stakeholders and making sure that Sky’s services reach customers as intended. You will be working across all of Sky’s output, including News, Sport and Entertainment.
The Origination & Distribution Shift Support team is responsible for providing technical support and maintenance of broadcast systems, equipment, software applications and networks to MCR, Playout and the Headend platform. This includes troubleshooting hardware/software issues as well as performing preventative maintenance on all related components.
What you'll do:
Provide 1st class reactive and proactive support, leading a shift team working a 7-day fortnight rotation made up predominantly of early shifts.
Collaborate with other Team Leads and Managers to manage the shift team rota, ensuring adequate staffing levels to meet operational requirements.
Conduct regular 121 meetings with direct reports to support their performance and set objectives effectively.
Provide technical advice, guidance, training and expertise on Sky systems to internal user groups and project staff.
Provide technical leadership during service-affected incidents
Ensure all issues are logged and reported to high standards.
Representation of the department at daily broadcast stakeholder incident meetings.
AP Shift Pattern 7am-7pm primarily on-site, with rotated 2nd line on-call responsibility.
What you'll bring:
Extensive experience as a Broadcast Engineer, ideally in the MCR, Playout, OTT & DTH domain.
A demonstrable understanding of baseband and IP broadcast video, audio and/or compression standards.
Strong leadership qualities.
Highly effective coordination and communication skills with both stakeholders and team members.
Experience in handling escalations and critical incidents within a live TV environment.
Strong organisational skills for managing documentation, communication channels and workload in a busy team.
Shift Pattern
You will be required to work a shift pattern that covers a 7-day fortnight. This would normally comprise Week 1- Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat, Sun / Week 2 - Wed, Thu 12-hour days with one-hour break and on an early/late rotation.
