A property legal advisor is required to assist with the management of Sky’s retail portfolio of circa 200 retail properties, including 15 in-line retail stores.  The role will require the successful candidate to deal with the end-to-end management of property transactions with minimal supervision. 

The successful candidate will be expected to have significant experience of landlord and tenant and property management work.

What You'll Do: 

  • Property Management
    • Running own case load with little or no supervision;
    • Dealing with a high volume of agreements for lease, leases, licences for occupation, licences to alter, wayleave agreements, subleases and other property documents throughout the life-cycle of the transaction;
    • Preparation and the service of break notices;
    • Carrying out due diligence on properties and analysis of registered titles to flag potential issues;
    • Drafting and negotiation of the property documents – applying Sky’s standing instructions and seeking instructions from business colleagues where appropriate;
    • Preparing summary reports in relation to property transactions;
    • Assisting the Senior Legal Counsel in dealing with post-completion steps including applications to register transactions at the Land Registry and preparing SDLT submissions where appropriate;
    • Identifying and raising issues with the lawyers; resolving issues in accordance with lawyers’ advice;
    • Dealing with estate management issues and proposing practical and commercial solutions in a timely manner;
    • Working closely with the Sky retail services business and being required to attend and lead meetings as and when required;
    • Working with external legal counsel as and when required;
    • Advising the business on estate management and landlord and tenant issues as and when they arise.

  • Data Analysis
    • Analysing data (eg: Work In Progress, Work In Progress completion rates) and presenting in tabular/graphic form.

  • Legal Research
    • Using PLC / Westlaw;
    • Presenting legal research in a succinct manner.

What You'll Bring: 

  • Extensive experience of working as a non-contentious property solicitor/experienced paralegal in private practice or in-house role;
  • Practical experience of dealing with leases, licences for occupation, licences to alter, wayleave agreements and other property documents throughout the life-cycle of the transaction. Ability to negotiate such documents with little or no supervision;
  • Practical experience of dealing with Land Registry applications and SDLT submissions to HMRC;
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills;
  • Experience of undertaking due diligence for freehold and leasehold transactions and experience of preparing title reports for review;
  • Ability to work independently within a busy team.

The role is a Property Legal Advisor position in the Sky Spaces & Retail Legal Team. The Team currently consists of 4 people (3 lawyers, 1 PA and a manager located at Sky DE).

The Sky Spaces & Retail Legal Team provides legal support for Sky’s Retail portfolio and property management across Sky’s estate. The role will principally be to provide legal support for Sky’s retail portfolio and to provide assistance to the Legal Counsel on property management matters across the remainder of Sky’s property portfolio as and when required.
