As a key member of Sky Sports News’ newsgathering team you’ll be responsible for making important editorial decisions regarding content across our TV, Digital and Social platforms.Whether it’s deploying reporters to cover breaking news stories, managing stakeholder relationships or checking the veracity of social media content, the role of news editor is at the very heart of Sky Sports News.Reporting into the Senior News Editors, you’ll be someone with significant news desk experience capable of working alone and to tight deadlines.

What You'll Do: 

  • Support Senior News Editors in running our sports news coverage for all platforms. 
  • Will be required to run the Newsdesk independently; making key decisions about stories and deployment. 
  • Be across the daily news agenda with the aim of driving key stories on behalf of all platforms. 
  • Work with Senior News Editors, Executive Producers & SSN Digital and Social teams to deliver stories for all platforms. 
  • Work, liaise with, and direct, reporters. 
  • Work with Senior News Editors & Planning team in the setting up of the next day’s news agenda and planned coverage. 
  • Help to ensure Newsgathering and Output operations are joined up and collaborative across all platforms. 
  • Liaise with Senior Producer (International) on global newsgathering. 
  • May be required to deputise for the Senior News Editor.

  

What You'll Bring: 

  • Strong editorial judgement and news sense which includes a focus on legal, reputational and OFCOM considerations.  
  • Proven newsroom experience of working to deadlines, problem solving and respond quickly to breaking news, making real-time editorial and logistical decisions.          
  • Experience assigning stories to reporters and guide them on angles, tone, and visual requirements.
  • A history of using contacts to deliver football stories and interviews. 
  • Ability to communicate, coordinate and collaborate effectively with different departments across the newsroom
  • Experience and understanding of Sky’s relationship with internal and external stakeholders.   
  • Experience ensuring content is visually compelling and meets the highest standards of accuracy and quality.
