Sky News is looking for an OSINT Producer to join our growing Data & Forensics team. This is a dynamic and exciting role that puts you at the heart of the biggest stories.

The ideal candidate will be a journalist with a good understanding of OSINT, experience of a wide range of online investigative tools and the skills to use open-source information to find, verify and geolocate UGC, people, social media content, satellite images, data and much else besides.

What you'll do

  • Use online investigative tools and open-source information to find, verify and geolocate UGC.
  • Use online tools to trace, locate and contact people in the news in the UK and across the world.
  • Contribute new OSINT solutions to drive Sky News' investigations and story-telling to new heights.
  • Work on fast-turnaround verification to support Sky’s journalism on all our platforms.
  • Work on long-term investigative projects, often in collaboration with other teams from across Sky News.
  • Develop bold and insightful story-telling techniques to bring UGC and verification data to life.
  • Write, produce and publish impactful stories, whether written, illustrated or with video.
  • Support the rest of Sky News’, including the Data & Forensics Unit, to help explain the news and the world to our audiences.

  • Significant experience of using OSINT techniques in a news environment.
  • A demonstrable passion for investigations.
  • Evidence of eye-catching story-telling techniques.
  • A forensic eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Clear understanding of media law, especially as it relates to privacy and social media.
  • A wealth of original story and treatment ideas.

Team overview

Sky News

You’ll work on projects across the newsroom, with a focus on premium story-telling, but you’ll be based with the Data and Forensics team - a multi-skilled unit dedicated to providing transparent journalism from Sky News.

We gather, analyse and visualise data to tell data-driven stories. We combine traditional reporting skills with advanced analysis of satellite images, social media and other open-source information. Through multimedia storytelling we aim to better explain the world while also showing how our journalism is done.
