We believe in better. And we make it happen.

Better content. Better products. And better careers.

Working in Tech, Product or Data at Sky is about building the next and the new. From broadband to broadcast, streaming to mobile, SkyQ to Sky Glass, we never stand still. We optimise and innovate.

We turn big ideas into the products, content and services millions of people love.

And we do it all right here at Sky.

Our purpose is to enable Sky to Believe in Better by unlocking the power of data: working with our colleagues to maximise the value of Sky’s data, supporting them in ensuring it’s easy to access, usable, reliable, secure and ethically handled.

In an environment where Cloud Technologies are growing and evolving at a fast pace, we need to keep up to date with emerging technologies and understand how we can apply them to make efficiency savings and improvements to the Cloud Platform Architecture.  Our highly skilled Platform Architecture team supports innovation and works closely with colleagues in Sky Data and other groups within Sky to resolve complex cloud platform challenges.  We define the cloud technology roadmap and create candidate patterns with proof of designs which underpin the solutions for all Sky Data portfolios.

A Platform Architect is an entry level position within the Platform Architecture team, responsible for evaluating and onboarding key technology enablers and supporting existing technologies for our data platform.

What you'll do

  • This role is a central architecture function in Sky Data.

  • Research and explore new cloud technologies through proof of concepts to evaluate benefits and potential inclusion into the cloud technology roadmap.

  • Work with third party suppliers including Google to deliver increments to the platform.

  • Create candidate patterns and Architectural Decisions which can be used by solution architects to meet workstream needs.

  • Build deep relationship with security, data governance, data engineering, platform operations, analytics and other key stakeholders to solve complex challenges by using your knowledge and skills within cloud architecture.

  • Provide knowledge transfer sessions to showcase latest technology approaches.

What you'll bring

  • Demonstrate a degree of proficiency in designing and developing complex solutions in a cloud platform.

  • Effectively communicate and explain cloud architecture technologies and topologies, particularly those related to GCP. Experience with AWS would be an asset.

  • A few years’ experience in infrastructure, networking, database and security architecture for cloud-based solutions.

  • Knowledge of cloud networking including (VPCs, Service Perimeters and Interconnect).

  • Knowledge of cloud security including CMEK, CSEK, KMS, Encryption at Rest and in Transit, IAM and security best practices for building applications.

  • Candidates with hands on experience as an engineer in one of the major cloud providers, ideally GCP would also be considered.
