The purpose of this role is to provide strategic, operational and people leadership for News, Graphics and Post Production Engineering, ensuring the delivery of resilient, high-performing production technologies that support the creation, management and delivery of content across live, near-live and non-live production environments.
The role is accountable for platform strategy, operational performance, engineering delivery, governance and team capability, leading the evolution of production technologies from traditional broadcast systems towards modern software-defined, cloud-enabled and highly integrated media platforms.
As a Senior Manager, you will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams responsible for business-critical News, Graphics and Post Production services, partnering with Production, Editorial, Product and Technology stakeholders to deliver technology transformation, operational excellence and continuous innovation across the media production ecosystem.
What you'll do
Strategic and Operational Leadership
Partnering with Architecture, Directorial and Stakeholder leadership, develop and deliver the technology roadmap for News, Graphics and Post Production platforms aligned to business priorities and future production requirements.
Drive the transition towards software-defined, cloud-enabled and highly automated production workflows.
Balance operational stability with strategic transformation, ensuring platforms remain reliable whilst enabling future innovation.
Establish clear platform ownership, engineering standards and technology direction across the domain.
Ensure technology investments deliver measurable operational, creative and business outcomes.
People Leadership and Team Capability
Lead and develop Engineering Managers, Lead Engineers and specialist engineering teams.
Build organisational capability across production technologies, graphics systems, automation, cloud services and modern engineering practices.
Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Drive succession planning, talent development and leadership growth across the organisation.
Create an inclusive, high-performing environment where teams can thrive and deliver their best work.
Platform Delivery and Service Leadership
Partnering with the Domain Leadership Team, own the end-to-end lifecycle of News, Graphics and Post Production platforms, from strategy and design through to implementation, operation and optimisation.
Lead major platform modernisation, workflow transformation and technology refresh programmes.
Ensure services are secure, resilient, scalable and operationally supportable by design.
Establish robust operational practices covering service management, observability, reliability and performance.
Drive continuous improvement through operational insight, service metrics and customer feedback.
Graphics Platform Leadership
Partnering with Domain Leadership team and Architecture teams, deliver the strategy, evolution and operational performance of graphics technologies supporting extensive production workflows.
Ensure graphics systems enable high-quality real-time and rendered content creation across multiple production environments.
Drive the convergence of graphics technologies into modern software-defined HTML enabled production architectures.
Partner with creative, editorial and production teams to enable new storytelling capabilities through technology innovation.
Support the introduction of emerging graphics, rendering, virtual production and visualisation technologies.
Stakeholder and Service Leadership
Represent the domain where required to act as the senior engineering representative for News, Graphics and Post Production technologies.
Build strong partnerships with production, editorial, creative and technology stakeholders.
Align technology delivery with operational requirements and long-term business objectives.
Manage strategic supplier relationships and technology partners.
Communicate priorities, risks, progress and outcomes clearly to senior stakeholders.
Governance, Risk and Standards
Ensure compliance with governance, security and engineering standards.
Own platform risks and mitigation plans.
Establish service level objectives, operational KPIs and reliability targets.
Ensure change is delivered safely and effectively across production environments.
Promote data-driven decision making and continual service improvement.
What you’ll bring:
Essential criteria:
Extensive leadership experience managing Engineering, Broadcast Technology, Media Technology, Production Technology, and multidisciplinary engineering teams supporting business-critical production, content creation, media, and broadcast platforms in complex environments.
Proven track record delivering large-scale technology transformation programmes across production, broadcast, post-production, media, content creation, creative technology, and graphics organisations, driving operational efficiency and innovation.
Deep technical expertise in modern media production technologies, including software-defined architectures, cloud platforms, automation, workflow orchestration, integrated production ecosystems, and graphics technology platforms supporting real-time production, rendering, visualisation, virtual production, and broadcast graphics workflows.
Strong understanding of end-to-end production, editorial and content creation workflows, with significant experience leading teams responsible for News, Post Production, Graphics, Media Management, Content Production, and Creative Technology platforms.
Demonstrable experience operating highly available 24/7 services, with accountability for reliability, operational resilience, incident management, service improvement, engineering standards, operating models, and delivery practices that enhance supportability and organisational effectiveness.
Exceptional leadership, stakeholder, and commercial management capability, including leading managers and technical teams, influencing senior business, editorial, creative and technology leaders, and overseeing supplier relationships, contracts, investment planning, and budget accountability.

How you’ll work
We've adopted a hybrid working approach to give more flexibility on where and how we work. The hybrid working expectations for this role are 3 days in the office per week.
