Senior Reliability Engineer
Role/Team overview
Sky Data are responsible for a variety of enterprise technologies and people that are integral to Sky's Information Systems.
We lead the way in many areas of technology, from delivering daily business critical corporate reports, to providing an elite data science and analytics platform for hundreds of users providing key insights on Sky’s customers, products and viewing content. Delivering solutions for new products and initiatives is what we do, every single day. We then support these solutions for their lifetime in Sky, to an impeccably high standard 24 hours a day 365 days of the year
What you’ll do
As a senior reliability engineer you will bring a dedicated focus that drives best in class practices around resilience and performance for our services. You will work with other teams to ensure the principles you help define become the standard approaches of our mission critical solutions.
Effective Incident resolution, including detailed root cause analysis, retrospectives, and proactive change to prevent reoccurrence.
24x7 On-call support across multiple systems and technologies.
Act as an escalation point for complex incidents.
Perform impact analysis of change requests, both for projects and small changes.
Display exemplary problem-solving skills no matter how big or small the problem may be.
Help deliver great solutions for our customers, collaborating effectively with multiple teams across cloud engineering to ensure successful solutions that are reliable and secure.
Monitor service performance on a 24/7 basis that continually assesses our stability, capacity, and resilience to deliver great outcomes for our stakeholders
You shall display an operations mindset and support our data engineers in building systems which are operationally ready.
Create and maintain technical documentation.
You shall embrace and enable a growth and personal development culture through active participation in events designed to facilitate knowledge transfer.
What you'll bring
Proven experience supporting and improving the reliability, resilience, availability and performance of business-critical systems, with experience applying Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) best practices.
Demonstrable experience supporting cloud-based data platforms and data services, including knowledge and application of Data Warehousing principles and operational readiness requirements.
Demonstrable experience building data acquisition pipelines with a preference in Striim
Technical expertise in Unix/Linux environments, SQL and Python scripting, with the ability to troubleshoot issues, analyse performance and support automation initiatives.
Experience assessing the impact of technical changes, managing operational risk and collaborating across engineering teams to deliver secure, reliable and resilient solutions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Experience working with at least one cloud platform with a preference in Google Cloud Platform.

How you’ll work
We've adopted a hybrid working approach to give more flexibility on where and how we work. The hybrid working expectations for this role are X days in the office per week.
Your office base
Livingston
Sky Watermark is our central site for Livingston, sitting between Glasgow and Edinburgh. With vibrant office spaces, chill-out areas, and an onsite canteen, it’s a great place to work and connect.
The nearest train station is Livingston North. A Sky shuttle bus runs between the station and campus every 20 minutes throughout the day. Plus, there’s onsite parking available for cars, motorbikes and bicycles.
