The role is within the in our fast paced RDK-B Development team which is a part of Sky Home Communications Team. The Reference Design Kit for Broadband (RDK-B) is an open source initiative standardising software functionality for broadband devices. Sky is leading development of Opensource WAN manager for RDK-B. Role involves developing software that would be deployed across millions of RDK-B devices around the globe.
As Senior Software Developer, you will play a key role in an activity that will, from a technical point of view, propose, develop and deliver products and additional post launch software features for Sky Home Communications software. You should possess a can-do attitude and have the desire to deliver high quality exciting software that are delivered into a very dynamic market sector. You will also have the opportunity to work on leading technical work streams and assist and influence development leads and the Head of Software Engineering in continuous improvement of the software development team. You will also be seen as a team member who will be able to mentor and help less experienced members of the team to develop and improve.

The ultimate aim is to play a key role in a World-class software team specifically developing the software for, and ensuring the delivery of, network-enabled products that are always on the cutting edge of technology, such that Sky’s customers can use them to do all the things they love, all of the time.
What you'll do:
Software component development, Integration & debugging.
Track new developments against an agreed development plan and provide status reports to the team leader.
Track defect fixes against an agreed development plan and provide status reports to the team leader.
Provide input into the planning for delivery of a new product or feature
Provide technical input into software architecture design.
Identify technical changes necessary to realise specific project requirements.
Escalate, where necessary, project and technical conflicts.
Contribute to technical investigations, identifying and applying creative problem-solving methods and debugging techniques.
Perform in-situ debugging at customer or field trial locations as necessary.
Contribute to the identification, development and rollout of improved software engineering practices.
Contribute to the specification and selection for any necessary tools required for enabling software delivery.
Work with 3rd party partners and suppliers to integrate their solutions into Sky products.
Potential work stream lead focusing on a specific delivery work stream within an overall project.
Provide a supportive and mentoring attitude to less experienced members of the software team.
Work directly with the development lead and Head of Software Engineering in the enhancement of processes and methodologies to deliver continuous improvements.
Play an active role in the selection of candidates for joining the software team
What you'll bring:
More than 5 years of Software development experience in C programming language.
More than 5 years of experience of developing software for Linux targets.
Software development experience with-in - IP routers, DSL, GPON, Wi-Fi, Network Devices, VoIP.
Experience with networking protocols such as TCP/IP, PPP, DHCP, IPv4, IPv6, Opensync, OVS etc.
Any experience with router stacks like RDK-B, Openwrt, prplwrt is preferable.
Team player that enjoys collaborative working
Has a desire to constantly improve and develop.
Clear and flexible communicator capable of exchanging ideas or summarising technical information with appropriate levels of detail depending on audience.
Strong personal organisation skills.
Self-motivated individual who can work in a fast-paced environment.

Proficient in the use of tools to support the investigative process.
