Sound Supervisor
The role of the Sound Supervisor is to perform sound duties at the highest level and provide supervision of the sound department’s people and its systems. As part of the sound team, this role will significantly contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of sound & communications functions that service the requirements of all Sky and some third-party channels, using the resources of Sky Production Services.
You will actively stay abreast of the industry to maintain Sky’s position as an industry leader in sound, including planning and suggesting changes to the working practices required to maintain these standards
What you'll do:
- To provide professional audio services to Sky and third-party clients.
- Control audio from multiple sources to a high standard to provide a cohesive and balanced program sound mix to the viewer.
- Set up and operate communications systems to facilitate the effective operation of the production environment.
- Work closely with Production to plan audio requirements, providing guidance and advice on the opportunities and techniques that are available to enhance the service provided.
- Ensure equipment is in full working order before commencing studio shifts or travelling to outside broadcasts. Reporting technical failures through the agreed procedures and channels within Sky
- Proactively assist in the management of technical facilities and equipment.
- Help maintain, review, and develop appropriate comprehensive technical documentation.
- Collaborate with other departments, including engineering, to provide and maintain our professional audio production facilities.
- Supervise crews of sound staff, specifically within an operational environment.
- To provide continuing guidance, instruction, and training to other members of the sound department.
- Support the Team Leaders in identifying the training needs of the department, providing mentoring, and coaching where applicable.
- Conduct good occupational health practices and general wellbeing at work by following Sky’s Health & Safety policies and procedures. Reporting all issues to the H&S representative as appropriate
What you'll do:

- Effective communicator who can demonstrate resilience under pressure
- Proven track record of delivering excellent sound supervising in high pressure situations
- In depth understanding of broadcast audio equipment including Riedel, RP1 and Calrec audio desks
- Well informed and up to date on broadcast developments and production processes such as remote production and I.P. delivery
- Experience of automation, outside broadcasts or remote productions
- Managing day to day relationships with clients, ensuring the delivery of the highest quality sound and communications service
