This role is for a Broadcast Support Engineer, initially focusing on the Distribution area (OTT, DTH, VOD). As part of the onsite support shift team, you will be looking after day-to-day systems and projects - from maintaining encoders & multiplexers, to reactive video & audio related technical issues.  You will be working across all of Sky’s output, including News, Sport and Entertainment.

The Origination & Distribution Shift Support team is responsible for providing technical support and maintenance of broadcast systems, equipment, software applications and networks to MCR, Playout, OTT and DTH. This includes troubleshooting hardware/software issues as well as performing preventative maintenance on all related components. The successful candidate will be able to work independently with minimal supervision while also being a team player to ensure the smooth operation of our broadcasting operations.    

What you'll do  

  • Provide technical support and timely fault analysis on the Broadcast Headend, VOD and Streaming platforms 

  • Work a regular shift pattern in one of two engineering teams formed of Associate Engineers, Engineers & Senior Engineers 

  • Provide reactive, logical, and methodical fault finding to a broad variety of faults found across a large platform 

  • Create & update tickets for every task, working these through to resolution   

  • Field calls, deal with routine maintenance and proactive checks, and attend major incident reviews.   

 

What you'll bring 

  • A degree in Broadcast Engineering/Media Technologies/or equivalent  

  • Solid experience as a Broadcast Engineer, ideally in the MCR, Playout, OTT & DTH domain. 

  • A demonstrable understanding of baseband and IP broadcast video, audio and/or compression standards.  

  • Solid understanding of MPEG/DVB standards 

  • A detailed understanding of the broadcast chain, specifically around the distribution area.  

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills  

  • Ability to resolve complex problems or problems where precedent may not exist in a live broadcast environment. 

  • A highly effective, positive, and influential communication style. 

  • A willingness to work a shift pattern, including weekend and evening working.  

 

 

Shift Pattern

You will be required to work a shift pattern that covers a 7-day fortnight. This would normally comprise Week 1- Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat, Sun / Week 2 - Wed, Thu 12-hour days with one-hour break and on an early/late rotation.
