About the role

Join us as an Engineering Lead in Sky’s Content Platform, building and operating the systems that power content delivery at scale. From video ingest and encoding to metadata and distribution, you’ll work on high-impact services used by millions of customers while setting technical direction, raising engineering standards, and delivering reliable, scalable services in a fast-moving, cloud-native environment.

Please note – this is a hybrid role with an on-call rotation twice a month.

What you'll do

• Build and operate cloud-native services on AWS using microservices and event-driven architecture

• Deliver independently deployable features with a strong focus on quality, reliability, and performance

• Contribute to code, reviews, and team discussions to maintain high engineering standards

• Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring, and production support, with out-of-hours participation where required

• Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure as code

• Work on systems supporting video ingest, encoding, metadata, and content distribution workflows

• Use observability and metrics to identify issues and improve system performance

• Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and QA to deliver high-quality solutions

What you'll bring

• Strong backend engineering experience with Python preferred, and the ability to work across or pick up other languages such as Java or C#

• Strong understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architectures, with experience in video, encoding, or broadcast workflows

• Hands-on experience building and operating services on AWS

• Strong experience designing and delivering APIs and microservices

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and production support

• Ability to debug and resolve issues in production environments

• A pragmatic mindset with the ability to deliver value while maintaining quality

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team

Our Osterley Campus is a 10-minute walk from Syon Lane train station. Or you can hop on one of our free shuttle buses that run to and from Osterley, Gunnersbury, Ealing Broadway and South Ealing tube stations. There’s also plenty of bike shelters and showers.
