As the Lead Systems Engineer for Broadcast Production Software Engineering, you will lead the charge in the technical advancement of our broadcast production systems, focusing on high-end graphics solutions. Your responsibilities will span designing and integrating both hardware and software solutionsYou will work with Sky Sports’ state-of-the-art XR studios, large LED volumes, AR graphics, and data-driven infographics, supporting top-tier sporting events. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in high-profile Sky News broadcasts, including elections, budget announcements, and other fast-paced breaking news. 

What you'll do

  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable, high-performance graphics systems that integrate with existing broadcast infrastructures. 

  • Engage with stakeholders across Sky Sports and Sky News to understand their needs and expectations, ensuring that system developments align with organisational goals and deliver value to all parties involved. 

  • Focus on optimising hardware and software systems in graphics rendering, pipelines, real-time processing, and output. 

  • Conduct thorough cost analysis for system upgrades, hardware procurement, and software development, ensuring that projects stay within budget while delivering high-quality results. 

  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to broadcast systems, ensuring minimal downtime and smooth operations. 

  • Work closely with design, production, and other engineering teams to align system development with project goals and timelines. 

  • Stay up to date with the latest developments in graphics technology and drive innovation by integrating new tools, techniques, and hardware advancements. 

  • Ensure that all systems adhere to industry standards, best practices, and company guidelines for graphics quality, performance and security. 

  • Maintain detailed documentation of system architecture, processes, and updates to ensure clear communication and knowledge transfer within the team. 

What you'll bring

  • Extensive experience in systems engineering, with a focus on graphics systems development and optimisation. 

  • Demonstrated expertise in delivering large-scale, complex broadcast graphics projects 

  • Strong knowledge of graphics compute, real-time rendering, and 3D graphics technologies  

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems within a Broadcast and IT environment. 

  • Understanding of AR/VR systems and tools. 

  • Knowledge of software automation, such as Ansible.  

  • Excellent communication and project management skills. 

  • Experience working in live production environment. 

  • Experience with cloud-based rendering and virtualisation technologies.
