Media Researchers in the News Archive are responsible for collating, storing and delivering video content for Sky News. This role will require the successful candidate to use search and cataloguing skills using our DAM system, and requires a good knowledge of current affairs and interest in the world. Media Researchers operate in a busy 24 hour Newsroom and must be able to demonstrate the ability to think quickly, prioritise workload, and deliver to tight deadlines. 

 

As a member of the Sky News Archive team, you’ll help drive the quality of Sky News’ output by delivering a first class picture research service, which is vital to the channel’s success. 

  

What you’ll do:

  • Responsible for picture research and delivery, supplying footage required by Sky News within tight and fast-moving deadlines 

  • To advise the news and programming teams on the availability of suitable archive material for specific projects 

  • To select footage for archiving and apply searchable metadata, identifying third party material with copyright restrictions 

  • To ensure third party material or any other assets with copyright restrictions are identified and clearly marked 

 

What you’ll bring:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of news archiving systems and their use in managing news content 

  • A good eye for images. Excellent visual literacy and visual memory. 

  • A basic understanding of copyright and its application in a broadcast news environment. 

  • Media researchers require resourcefulness, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work methodically and creatively under pressure.  

  • An interest in national and international current affairs is essential, as is an inquisitive mind and desire to learn. 

  • The ability to pick up new skills quickly is a must 

  • Exemplary communication and people skills
