What You’ll DoLeadership
  • Mentor junior team members on day-to-day tasks management, incident management, on-call escalations and the nuances of navigating Sky’s people and systems.

Communication & Delivery
  • Collaborate with teams across the organisation to design and implement Linux solutions that meet business needs.

  • Contribute to the full automation of the deployment of Linux system, upgrades, migrations, and patching as needed.

  • Develop and implement backup and recovery plans to minimize downtime and data loss.

  • Enforce security policies and procedures within the Linux environment.

  • Stay updated with industry trends and best practices across Linux environments.

Support
  • Monitor Linux system performance and capacity, resolving issues promptly to maintain stability.

  • Troubleshoot and fix Linux-related incidents and problems efficiently.

  • Engage with Platform Support teams to assist with 24/7 on-call incident resolution (rota-based) and engage various teams including 3rd parties for support escalation.

  • Be aware of wider issues beyond technology such as financial and organisational; articulating and escalating where necessary.

What You’ll BringRequired:
  • Advanced-level hands-on experience in Linux system administration and support, preferably in enterprise environments.

  • Proficiency in managing Linux-based infrastructure, including various distributions such as, Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.

  • Demonstrated expertise in understanding and implementing Linux system architecture, including familiarity with concepts like kernel tuning, file systems, and package management.

  • Proven track record in optimising Linux system performance and tuning configurations for optimal operation.

  • Solid understanding of Linux security concepts and experience in implementing security measures such as user management, file permissions, and firewalls.

  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues efficiently within a Linux environment.

  • Fundamental knowledge of products such as Ansible, Puppet or Chef to automate the deployment of repetitive tasks.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to design and implement Linux-based solutions that meet business needs.

Preferred:
  • Possession of Linux certifications, such as Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC), is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with various Linux distributions beyond the basic administration level is advantageous.

  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

  • Exposure to monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Nagios, or Grafana, and their use for troubleshooting infrastructure issues.

  • Experience with DevOps methodologies and tools for continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD), such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Concourse CI.

  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and practices.

  • Previous experience in mentoring or leadership roles within an infrastructure engineering team.
